It is no fun to plan a night around a place and find the door locked. This page lists Charleston restaurants and bars that have closed, with the date for each one.
We checked on 7 October 2026. If a place is on this list, do not trust its website, its map pin or an old "best of" article.
Closed Charleston restaurants whose websites still look open
These are closed. We opened each website ourselves on 7 October 2026, and this is what was still there.
| Restaurant | Closed | What its website still says |
|---|---|---|
| The Select, 465 Meeting Street | Announced 13 November 2025 | Still shows Reserve, Online Ordering, a Thanksgiving Menu and gift cards, with nothing about closing |
| Two Bit Club, 93 Society Street | 13 September 2026 | Still has a working "Find A Table" form and tells search engines it takes reservations |
| Gillie's Seafood, James Island | August 2024, called permanent in November 2024 | Still posts summer hours and a menu |
| Cru Cafe, Pinckney Street | 28 September 2024 | Says "Cru Cafe Has Closed" at the top, with a "Make a Reservation" button still below it |
The Select is the clearest case. It has been closed for almost a year, and a person who lands on the site today can still try to book a table for Thanksgiving.
Ms. Rose's in West Ashley did it right. Its whole website is now one goodbye letter. It names the last day, 30 May 2026, and says why. That is all a closing takes.
Rodney Scott's BBQ on King Street closed on 3 May 2026
Rodney Scott's BBQ at 1011 King Street closed on 3 May 2026 "until further notice". The Post and Courier tied it to a lawsuit against the restaurant group that ran it. In August the paper reported it will not reopen at that address.
It held a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, and a local Top 50 list printed in August 2026 still showed it as open. Babas, a local cafe, opened in the building on 2 October 2026. Mr. Scott's lawyer has said he is looking for a new Charleston location.

Old Charleston restaurant web addresses that now show gambling
When a restaurant closes and stops paying for its web address, someone else can buy it. Several old Charleston addresses now lead to gambling pages. Old articles still link to them.
We confirmed these were once the real restaurant sites: Hominy Grill, Harold's Cabin, McCrady's Tavern, Blossom, Herd Provisions and Two Boroughs Larder. BellyUp! Charleston does not link to any of them.
Closure dates: The Post and Courier, Charleston City Paper, Holy City Sinner, Live 5 News and WCIV ABC News 4. Website checks: fetched by BellyUp! on 7 October 2026. Know of a closing we missed? Tell us.
