Charleston is a seafood and barbecue town, so the vegan list is short. It is also honest. These are the places where a source says vegan in plain words.
Fully vegan kitchens in Charleston
- Three Girls on Spring, a plant-based Italian deli at 121 Spring Street, run by a mother and her daughters.
- Annie O Love's, a vegan and gluten-free bakery and cafe on Ashley River Road in West Ashley.
We could not find anything dated this year for either one, so both are on our Help Us Check list. If you have been lately, tell us.
Charleston restaurants with real vegan choices
These kitchens cook meat too. Each is here because the place or the city's tourism office names its vegan food.
- Basic Kitchen on Wentworth Street, with staff trained to walk you through the menu.
- Beautiful South, where more than half the Cantonese dishes are vegetarian or vegan-friendly.
- Kwei Fei, its Sichuan sister on James Island.
- Jack of Cups Saloon on Folly Beach.
- Taco Boy on Huger Street, for vegan beans and guacamole.
- Kultura, Filipino cooking on Rutledge Avenue.
- Off Track Ice Cream, which makes a vegan ice cream from cashews and coconut.
Two vegan favorites have closed. Neon Tiger closed on 30 March 2024. Gnome Cafe closed on 3 September 2022. If a vegan list still names either one, the list is out of date.
